Trafixcast

Questions and answers

Is Trafixcast free?

Yes. There is nothing to buy and no sign-up.

Do I need an account?

No. Trafixcast has no accounts or logins. Nothing you enter is saved against your name.

How accurate are the estimates?

They are estimates, shown as a range. Trafixcast is new and we have not yet measured its accuracy against real trips, so use it to compare times and spot the slow ones rather than as a promise. Do not rely on it for time-critical travel.

Where does the traffic information come from?

Predicted travel times come from TomTom for each departure time. We then adjust for rain, public holidays, your vehicle and your own speed. The How it works page has the details.

Which vehicles and cities are supported?

Cars, bikes and scooters in Bengaluru and Chennai. Metro and bus are planned. Other cities are not available yet.

What is the difference between an area and an exact location?

An area (like Whitefield or Koramangala) uses the middle of that neighbourhood, which is quick but less precise. An exact location uses a spot you pick on the map or paste from a Google Maps link, which gives a more accurate estimate for your actual door-to-door trip.

How do I use a Google Maps link?

In Google Maps open the place, tap Share, then Copy link, and paste it into the box under Exact spot. Short links (maps.app.goo.gl) and full links both work.

Why do some boxes say NA?

Those departure times have already passed today, so there is nothing to predict. Pick a later window, or look at the other days.

What does the umbrella mean?

Rain is forecast for that day or time. More drops mean heavier rain. Rain slows traffic, so the estimate already includes extra time.

Are the fuel prices up to date?

Not necessarily. We use approximate prices unless you enter your own, and the screen tells you when a price may be out of date. For the best figure, type in the price you pay.

Does Trafixcast store my location?

No. Choosing an area, or pressing Use my location, is matched to an area inside your browser and your position is not sent to us. If you drop an exact pin, the pin is used to work out the estimate and is rounded to about 100 metres. See the Privacy page.

Why does an estimate take several seconds?

We look up predicted traffic for every 30-minute slot across several days. Trips we have looked up recently come back faster.

I can not find my area in the list.

Type part of its name in the box, because the list narrows as you type. If it is still not there, use Exact spot instead: tap the map or paste a Google Maps link for any spot in the city you chose.

I found a mistake. Who do I tell?

Please use the Contact page. Corrections, such as a missing public holiday or a wrong area position, help everyone.
